Explorer Scout Paddlesport development weekend

Course Overview

This course is a 2 day Paddlesport development course aimed at Explorer Scouts who have paddled before...and who at least are be able to go in a straight line!

 

The course will focus on the skills  included in the BCU 1 and 2 star syllabus, so will involve kayaking and canoeing. If candidates reach the required standard by the end of the course then they might achieve these awards. If so then the cost of the certificates from the BCU will be additional to the cost of the course.

 

If there is enough demand from existing 2 star paddlers then a FSRT course can also be be provided.

 

The course will involve theory sessions in the evenings as well as practical sessions during the day.

 

The course will begin at 8 pm on Friday 30th September at Moor Crag, and finish at approx 3:00 pm on the sunday afternoon It is candidate’s responsibility to get to and from the event.

 

Pre requisites

 

Be able to swim

This course is not aimed at beginners and to get the most out of it we would recommend that candidates                have paddled previously

 

Equipment

 

Food, accommodation and kayaking equipment will be provided.

Participants are required to bring all their own personal paddling clothing, this includes enough warm clothing for 2 days on (and in!) the water and footwear (wet shoes or an old pair of trainers)

 

The course involves plenty of practical on-the-water sessions and you should come prepared to get wet!

Please contact Stuart Dean , via the Paddlepsort e-mail address, in order to check that spaces are still available.There are 18 places available, however due to the contraints of the sleeping accommodation the boy girl mix will need to be 10 girls and 8 boys or vice versa
